Brent Mayr & Dick DeGuerin Get Not Guilty Verdict for Prominent El Paso Businessman Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter

Another high profile case. Another acquittal. Brent Mayr, along with legendary criminal defense attorney, Dick DeGuerin, managed to convince an El Paso county jury to acquit their client of felony Intoxication Manslaughter and convict only of the misdemeanor Driving While Intoxicated. Three years ago, prominent El Paso businessman, William “Billy” Abraham, owner of several downtown El Paso buildings and son of prominent El Paso criminal defense attorney, Joseph “Sib” Abraham, Jr. was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter after hitting and killing a pedestrian in downtown south El Paso. The case drew an enormous amount of attention after Abraham failed to stop and continued driving for several miles before being stopped by Border Patrol agents. A mandatory blood draw showed Abraham had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20. Abraham turned to Brent Mayr, Board Certified Criminal Attorney and former head of the Harris County Vehicular Crimes Section, for his intricate knowledge and experience with cases involving Intoxication Manslaughter to defend him on what was seen by many as an impossible case to defend.
